Lunch & Learn Workshop

Sharing Findings from the Duo Push Research Project

PROBLEM

At the end of any research project, the goal is to share the findings and make use of the research. However, lengthy reports are hardly an engaging way to learn about the users, so I also wanted to share my research in a fun, digestible way.

With the help of the two other design interns and my mentor, I designed a Lunch & Learn workshop that involved collaboration and role-playing, and I invited Duonauts from multiple departments to come learn about our users.

My ultimate goal was to prompt Duonauts to answer this problem statement:

"How can we help end users use Duo push?"

Planning Process

Event coordination

Date: Last day of my internship
Location: Wherever I can fit 30+ people
Food: Jerusalem Garden (who doesn't love hummus?)

Preparing the presentation

Setting Expectations. Agenda, introduction, etc…. No surprises!

Sharing Key Insights. To summarize my 15-page report on the research findings, I looked at key insights from the interview data. In order narrow down which ones to share in the brief lunch presentation, I decided to gather the insights that would allow more generation of ideas on how to solve our problem statement.

Learning By Doing. While presenting quotes from real users and summarizing key findings is a good way to help the team understand our users, people learn best through active engagement. To really promote design thinking, I came up with an interactive role-playing session that walks them through some methods that designers use to think from the user's perspective. This included: individual & team ideation, affinity diagramming, and developing solutions through role-play.

Trial Run

I held a mock run-though with members of the design team and an outside team member. Their input helped refine my presentation and also allowed me to identify any confusing parts in the activities. The trial run prompted the addition of examples for some of the steps.

day of the Workshop

While everyone was attentive and interested during the presentation, the real fun began with the activities. After breaking out into teams, people generated a lot of creative solutions to how Duo could help end users use Push. The two other design interns, Navdeep and Guarang, helped me to facilitate the ideation activities and assist the teams with their role-play scenarios. The workshop was a success, thanks to all the people who helped out, and it was a great way to end my summer internship.
